Altar Ministries

God has always called and gifted individuals to serve at the altar of worship ( Numbers 1:50-51). The Spirit has gifted individuals to read, to pray, to welcome others to worship, to serve, and to administer the Holy Communion to those in need. Our Altar Ministries at St David’s play a pivotal part in our worship celebrations on Sunday morning, and we are grateful and blessed to have many talented people who have been gifted by the Holy Spirit and share their time and talent with us. Our Altar Ministries include: the Altar Guild, Lay Eucharistic Ministry, Readers, Acolytes, Ushers, and the Prayer Team. Take a look and see which ministry you want to be a part of.

ALTAR GUILD
The Scriptures testify that men and women filled"with the Spirit of God, with skill, ability and knowledge in all kinds of crafts- to make artistic designs ...... to engage in all kinds of craftsmanship." (Exodus 31: 1-11). The Altar Guild at St David’s is a very important ministry and is headed up by Oduore Etuwewe. St David’s has currently seven members on the altar guild but they are always looking for volunteers who would like to join The altar guild washes and irons the vestments for the clergy and acolytes. They make the colorful banners, decorate the church, prepare and wash the utensils such as the chalice and paten used for Communion. They also come in every Saturday morning to make sure all things are ready for next day’s 8am and 10:30am services. This includes making sure there is plenty of bread and wine for the Eucharist, there is enough oil in the candles; and if it is time to change seasons in the liturgical calendar, they decorate the church for that appropriate season. If you would like to volunteer for this ministry see Oduore Etuwewe to see how you can join the guild to serve for either of the services.

LAY EUCHARISTIC MINISTRY
Lay Eucharistic Ministers (LEMs) serve as chalice bearers in both the 8am and 10:30am services. They also take the Body and Blood of Jesus or Holy Communion to the sick and shut ins either after church or during the mid-week. This allows for those who are not able to come to church to still be a part of our worship service by participating in the Body and Blood of Christ through the bread and wine that has been consecrated during the celebration of the Eucharist on Sunday morning. LEMs must be approved by the rector, attend a special training class, and be licensed by the bishop. Anyone interested in becoming a Lay Eucharistic Minister. Please see Bill Coburn.

READERS
Every Sunday during worship services, we at St David’s we hear at least three lessons read from the Holy Scriptures. We hear a lesson from the Old Testament, the New Testament, the Gospel of our Lord, and a Psalm depending on what service one attends. These lessons are read by a member of our congregation. Would youlike to be a Reader?. Then all you have to do is see Janet Palmer for details and attend a readers training class that is led by Fr Jose and Don Eitner. Call the church office for details.

ACOLYTES
Our Acolytes help serve in the liturgy and our worship experience in a variety of ways. They help the clergy set the table during the Eucharist. They also carry the cross when the clergy and worship team process in and the clergy recess out. Anyone who desires to serve the Lord in this area of ministry. Please contact Fr Jose or Fr Charles for more details

PRAYER TEAM
"The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective" (James 5:16). St. David’s Prayer Team is available every Sunday immediately following our 10:30 a.m. worship service and is also offered during various events and special occasions of the Church. This ministry provides an opportunity to receive individual and personal ministry by the direction of God’s Holy Spirit, through the ministry of individuals who are called to serve God and His people, through the laying on of hands and prayer. Each member of the prayer team has heard and answered the call to this ministry and exercises their spiritual gift and anointing of prayer to the measure given by the Holy Spirit.
The members of our prayer team are dedicated and committed to be the instruments of God’s healing and blessing for those who are seeking God’s will and way in the midst of all circumstances and situations. As a prayer team we understand the need and absolute importance of keeping confidentiality as we pray, minister and discern God’s desire for each person. We are blessed beyond measure to be His disciples called to be the instruments of prayer He uses as He pours out to His beloved children blessing, healing, strength, peace, wisdom and encouragement.
See DiAnne Charves if you would like prayer or want to be involved in the prayer team.
