Thanksgiving Day/Harvest Festival
by Deborah Chase
For if the willingness is there, the gift is acceptable according to what one has, not according to what he does not have. 2 Corinthians 8:12 Thanksgiving is coming. Most of us already have made plans to be with family and friends to have a big meal and just enjoy being together. Unfortunately, our less fortunate brothers and sisters who come to St. David’s each week on Saturday for breakfast or on weekdays looking for food won’t enjoy the same. But you can help make a difference in their lives by participating in our annual Harvest Festival which will be celebrated during our Thanksgiving Day service on Thursday, November 27 at 10:00 a.m.
For those of you who are not familiar with our Harvest Festival, I will explain. During Fall in agricultural areas harvest celebrations take place at churches where the local farmers bring in some of the fruits of the hard work they have labored on all year so that it may be given to those in need. Our “fields” are as close as the kitchen pantry or local grocery store and we can celebrate just as the farmers do. This is an opportunity to check your pantry for the extra food that you may have on hand that you want to share with those who have less than you do. The next time you’re doing your grocery shopping pick up some extra items to share with those in need. Whatever items you plan to donate please be sure to check for expiration dates. We ask that you bring non perishable foods such as soups, meals in a can (ravioli, etc.), dried milk, cereals (individual boxes), canned meats, etc. We also need hygiene items: toothbrushes, toothpaste, combs, razors, shampoos and conditioners, socks, etc. If you have clothing you would like to donate, we ask that you please take those items to the local Good Will or Salvation Army as we do not currently have a need for clothing.
This is an opportunity to share with those who have less than we do. This is an opportunity to do the Lord’s work, to love our neighbor as ourselves. Bring as much as you can so that we can fill the altar area. Let us stock our shelves so that we help our brothers and sisters. Bless others as you have been blessed. Thank you so much for your generosity in these difficult economic times.
If you are going to be away for Thanksgiving you may bring your items any Sunday before that date. If you should have any questions you may call me at 818.752.2513 or email.

of August 17th. The study is on 1 Corinthians. A study
guide and a journal will be provided to each
participating member. The House Churches meet once a
week or every other week. If you don’t know
whether or not you want to join we would encourage you
to talk with those who have participated and then test
